Significant changes in 2012 for Wilson Junior Baseball

Bat Rules for 2012 See Below

Spring Training!!!

For 2012 Wilson Junior Baseball is eliminating one day tryouts for team formation. Instead, we are going to focus on player development and hold a three week Spring Training that will focus on player skill development in order to better the repair players for the season and to play baseball in high school.

Using the facilities at Jackson Middle School and at Wilson High School players will develop their fielding, throwing, pitching, hitting, and their position specific knowledge.  Only after the coaches have you been able to work with and develop the players for three weeks will we form our teams.

Coaches

To improve player development and overall experience for players we are going to hire experienced coaches for as many teams as we can find qualified coaches.  Volunteer assistant coaches and parents to assist with organizational tasks will still be necessary for all teams.

At this point, we do not have coaches for all the anticipated teams but we are continuing to meet with candidates.  Some teams may be coached by volunteer coaches.

Bat Rule For 2012 (Updated 1/19/12)

A decision is in!  For 2012, if you use a -3 bat it must be "BBCOR" certified.  Umpires will be checking for the official "BBCOR" stamp at games.  If you use a bat that has a bigger drop that -3 (like -5 or -8) you can have any bat you would like.  If you are purchasing a bat you expect your player to use in high school, then just follow the high school rules: -3 for weight and it must be "BBCOR" certified.  Here is the text of the bat rule:

N. Beginning January 1, 2012, all baseball bats for JBO which are -3 (weight to length differential) will meet the BBCOR certification. The National Federation of State High School Associations rules for baseball bats will apply. Umpires are required to perform a pre-game inspection of all equipment, especially bats, to ensure proper certification.

Beginning January 1, 2013, all baseball bats in JBO, Inc. will be BPF 1.15 certified. Umpires are required to perform a pre-game inspection of all equipment, especially bats, to ensure proper certification.

Use of an illegal/altered bat shall be considered unsportsmanlike conduct and the player and Head Coach shall be ejected from the game. Both the ejected player & coach may be subject to further disciplinary action by the District and JBO, Inc. Board of Directors.
